Memories of the Meek is a small photographic collection of intentionally produced studio images that create space for the memorialization of animals that have passed away due to unnatural causes, with the currently featured animals being those found as roadkill. The work serves as a reminder to notice the meek and recognize their worth within creation. This is explored through axiological reflection and by echoing the traditions of Victorian mourning photography. Through a delicate process, each animal is given an individualized memorial they would not otherwise have received. The project encourages a confrontation with death while also celebrating the gift of life instantiated in each of God’s creatures.
