Amanda Barrier
Tending the Garden is a photographic fine art project exploring the spirituality in the physical act of gardening. In this project, Amanda Barrier captured community and home gardens, focusing on the individual’s relationship to their plots one-on-one. Focusing on these interactions taught her that growing spiritually takes the same daily faith: the watering of grace, the weeding out of negative habits, and the tossing of new seeds with the hope that they will produce something worthwhile. The garden metaphor has rich biblical ties, even back to the first garden. The first purpose that human beings had was to tend to the garden and take care of its goodness in partnership with our Creator. Our tending is never meant to be done alone but in partnership. Partnership with the water, the soil, the unseen chemical reactions, and the Creator that motivates it all.
