A Tlaxcalan Journey is a photographic narrative centered on a warrior of Tlaxcalan descent, born to live freely and persevere against any odds before him. For this warrior, the endless sky represents the limit, and he never surrenders his freedom or autonomy. Historically, the Tlaxcalans helped cripple the centuries-old Aztec Empire through an unorthodox alliance with the Spanish, a decision that allowed them to continue many of their traditions and evolve within changing societal structures. The lineage and guidance of grandparents, parents, and a madrina help lead the warrior along his spiritual path. Once the warrior’s journey reaches its maturity, he finds the peace and fulfillment he longed for throughout his life. The physical and mental scars he carries are not signs of failure or weakness but badges of honor, much like the military medals recognized today. Although some claim Tlaxcala does not exist, the legacy remains. Controversial or not, the smallest state in Mexico played a significant role in bringing down an empire and shaping what Mexico is today.
