Josiah Grant

W.A.T.T.S. (We Are Trained To Survive) is an ongoing project focused on a city in South Los Angeles, Watts. Photographer Joisah Grant was brought up in this community and believes he has a unique opportunity to amplify the voices of those often overlooked. Utilizing his distinctive perspective and passion for photography, he aims to capture the stories of Watts and its people. Importantly, this project is intended as a tribute to the community's resilience, spirit, and soul that have significantly shaped Josiah’s identity. At the same time, it is vitally important for him to avoid sugar-coating content or making fictitious photographs.

Through his lens, he seeks to provide a raw glimpse into Watts's daily life, love, and culture. Allowing for new insight into the often misrepresented neighborhood. W.A.T.T.S. is not solely a means of showcasing a body of work but an opportunity for Grant to offer adoration to his upbringing while shedding light on untold stories.

  • Love, hate, pain, joy. Death, life, soul, youth. Bound to one sole truth.

  • Culture, passion, emotional quarries. Judgment is projected on untold stories.

Soul, History, Natural, Culture, Raw
