Jalynn Givens tells the stories of cowboys in various rodeo events using a photo-journalistic perspective in this project called Cowboys in Action. This body of work shares who cowboys are, what events they participate in, and why they love the rodeo lifestyle – all through their actions and expressions. Living the rodeo lifestyle captives the real-life concept of emphasizing American traditions through works of beauty and hard work. Eye-catching details in action and portraits showcase a cowboy or cowgirl’s devotion. While the drive to the rodeo is intended to test the cowboys' and cowgirls' skills and speed to win the events, this project captures each individual's creative personal qualities. These photographs distinguish the consideration of details in the environment, clothing choices, equipment used, and pure expression to highlight unique cowboys and cowgirls of all ages within various events. This body of work shows how rodeo is more than an event; it’s a way of life.
