Madeline Rose Kozelchik

Madeline Rose Kozelchik is a photographer who lives and works in Riverside, California. After getting her first camera at 15, she felt like she could capture more stories within her images than through words. Inspired by Steve Babuljak’s use of light and storytelling abilities within his photographic work.

The main subject of Kozelchik's work is couples and their shared and separate activities/hobbies. This is important because she wanted to explore what couples do in their spare time with and without each other. She wanted to explore the differences in people even when they are in a relationship with another. Her art-making process consists of having the couple do their chosen activity/hobby while having a conversation with them about their relationship to ensure that it looks natural and not staged. This is important to understanding her work because she wanted it to show real people and their real activities/hobbies that they truly enjoy doing with and without their spouse. The ideal exhibition space for her work is a book because it brings the subjects to life in a personal and relatable way to the viewer.
