The Faces of Chapman Avenue Baptist Church is home to many. Located in Garden Grove, California, it is the home of learning and worship. It is a small community that occupies the tall historic stained glass window walls creating the feeling of a bright Sunday morning.

In this body of social practice work, Jennifer Ramon uses documentary photography to capture the on-about of weekly services of prayer, worship, and sermon. This intimate fellowship is shown to grow the more Jennifer opens herself up in how she is connected with the church she grew up in. Through conversation and the acts of writing, the relationship between the photographer and the people transforms into a genuine connection that creates an organic setting.

Jennifer’s process was to carry her camera to church service and capture the service in itself. After service, Jennifer would then ask permission from a fellow church attendee if they were comfortable with having their portrait taken, and writing an excerpt of their experience developing a relationship with Christ.  The outcome points the viewer to take a look into the lives of these fellow Christians and their stories of how Christ came into their life. To leave with recognition of the face and memories of the specific person in the photograph.
